Hi, mobmarser.
For most 32-bit software, it 'just works' in 64-bit. In other words, just
install it in Win7 x64 the same way you would in Win7 x86 (or in Vista or
WinXP). If it does not work, please post back and include the name (and
version) of the software. Someone probably will recognize it and have a
solution.
Some will need to be run in 'Compatibility Mode' and will need to be set as
compatible with WinXP or Vista, but this usually is not related to the
'bitness' of the software.
A few programs will not run in 64-bit mode. One glaring example is Adobe
Flash Player, which is used by many websites to show video. As Adobe says
on its website, Flash will not work in a 64-bit browser, but will work fine
in a 32-bit browser (such as 32-bit IE8) running in a 64-bit operating
system (such as Win7 x64). Since Win7 x64 includes BOTH 32-bit and 64-bit
versions of IE8 and the default is set to run the 32-bit version, users
seldom see the problem. (When we do, we simply Copy the URL from the
Address Bar, start the 32-bit IE8, Paste the URL and press Enter.)
In almost all cases, though, 32-bit software runs as well - or better - on
64-bit Windows as on 32-bit Windows. ;<)
